Vietnam – Denmark energy partnership promotes green transition in Vietnamese enterprises through energy efficiency
Can Tho, April 17, 2026 – Within the framework of Component 3 of the Vietnam - Denmark Energy Partnership Program for the period 2020 – 2025 (DEPP3), the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency and the Embassy of Denmark in Viet Nam, organized a site visit to witness the results of cooperation at two enterprises participating in the Voluntary Agreement Scheme on Energy Efficiency in Energy Intensive Industries (VAS Program).
Nearly 20 journalists and reporters from electronic newspapers, magazines, and broadcasting agencies such as Can Tho Radio and Television Station, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Vietnam News Agency, Thanh Nien Newspaper, People’s Army Newspaper, and Sai Gon Giai Phong visited and surveyed operations at two exemplary enterprises participating in the VAS Program - Tay Do Steel Co., Ltd. and NTSF Seafood JSC. These enterprises have actively invested in and applied technology solutions to enhance energy efficiency, reduce production costs, and contribute to Vietnam’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets.
Mr. Hoang Van Tam, Head of the General Affairs and International Cooperation Division (Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industry Promotion, MOIT) emphasized: “The VAS Program demonstrates that cooperation between government authorities and enterprises yields practical results. It not only enhances energy efficiency, reduces production costs, and improves competitiveness, but also contributes to national goals on energy security, carbon neutrality, and green transition.”

At Tay Do Steel Co., Ltd., high-quality energy audits and feasibility studies supported by DEPP3 provided the company with a comprehensive view of its energy use and identified priority areas for improvement.
According to Mr. Dao Duy Tuan Hung, Deputy General Director of Tay Do Steel Co., Ltd., energy costs account for a significant share of total production costs. Therefore, energy efficiency has always been a top priority. However, due to limitations in awareness, technical expertise, and resources, the factory utilized energy inefficiently, particularly in heat consumption.
“With support from DEPP experts, we now have a clearer overview of our energy consumption and the key areas that require priority improvements,” Mr. Hung stated.

The second solution under study involves improving the productivity of medium-frequency furnaces through upgrading the input scrap handling system. This solution has the potential to save approximately 5.2 million kWh per year (equivalent to nearly VND 11 billion) and reduce nearly 3,500 tons of CO₂ emissions. The investment cost is around VND 60.1 billion, with a payback period of 4.5 years.
At NTSF Seafood JSC, based on feasibility study results supported by DEPP3, the company has confidently invested in upgrading its refrigeration compressor system.
Mr. Pham Bao Quoc, Deputy General Director of NTSF Seafood, shared: “Previously, we recorded energy consumption data across all factories but did not know how to analyze it. Only after receiving support from DEPP experts did we fully understand our issues and gain confidence to propose the project to the BOD.”

In 2026, the company plans to replace old compressors with a high-efficiency refrigeration compressor system, with a total investment of nearly VND 12 billion. The project is expected to significantly reduce electricity consumption by approximately 854,000 kWh per year and cut around 563 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.
In addition to energy and environmental benefits, the project will also reduce operation and maintenance costs, improve operational efficiency, and increase productivity.

The VAS Program is a technical assistance initiative under DEPP3. It provides support to enterprises through international-standard energy audits and detailed techno-economic analyses to develop bankable energy efficiency projects. To date, the VAS Program has supported 21 designated energy users across 13 industrial sectors, identifying 236 investment opportunities with a total potential saving of approximately 315.1 GWh per year (equivalent to USD 6 million), while reducing nearly 134,700 tons of CO₂ emissions. The site visit, attended by more than 20 media representatives, provided firsthand insights into cooperation outcomes at enterprises, while helping disseminate best practices and promote the replication of energy efficiency solutions across Vietnam’s industrial sector. The Vietnam - Denmark Energy Partnership Program for the period 2020 – 2025 (DEPP3) is a technical assistance project funded by the Government of Denmark. Component 3 - Low carbon development in industry - is implemented by the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion (MOIT). The component aims to support Vietnam in developing a low-carbon industrial roadmap aligned with national emission reduction and sustainable development commitments.
