May Forestry Joint Stock Company participates in Voluntary Agreement Scheme on Energy Efficiency

10/12/2024

Within the framework of Component 3 – Low carbon development in the industrial sector under the Energy Partnership Program between Vietnam and Denmark (2020–2025), the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in collaboration with the Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Danish Energy Agency, has piloted the Voluntary Agreement Scheme on Energy Efficiency in Energy-intensive Industries (VAS Program).

The VAS program aims to assist enterprises in improving energy efficiency in production activities through technical support from local and international energy experts, such as conducting energy audits with international standards, developing technical and financial analysis reports, and compiling loan application documents for potential energy efficiency investment projects.

May Forestry Joint Stock Company is one of the enterprises participating in the signing and implementation of the VAS Program under the Energy Partnership Program between Vietnam and Denmark 2020–2025 (DEPP3 Program).

On December 5, 2024, the program's experts, the leadership team, and staff of May Forestry Joint Stock Company, along with the local consulting unit Vietnam Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company (VETS), held a meeting to evaluate the program's support results for the feasibility study report on improving energy efficiency of the enterprise's combustion and fiber drying systems.

Delegates attended the meeting.

Representing VETS, Mr. Hoang Quang Tung, stated that the project to renovate and upgrade the combustion and fiber drying systems at May Forestry Joint Stock Company has a 15-year lifecycle based on the durability and lifespan of the materials.

If the proposed solutions are implemented comprehensively, the enterprise could save 2,433 tons of fuel annually, reduce CO2 emissions by 4,123.95 tons, and gain non-energy benefits such as improving MDF products' quality, reducing wood drying time, increasing production efficiency, protecting the environment, and ensuring labor safety.

Mr. Hoang Quang Tung, the representative of Vietnam Technology Solutions Joint Stock Company (VETS), presented the feasibility study report at May Forestry Joint Stock Company.

Specifically, the local consulting unit proposed two solutions: installing a Level 1 air preheater for the combustion system and installing a pipeline from the dust filter at the pressing stage to the fiber drying fan.

The first solution was proposed to increase combustion efficiency and reduce fuel consumption. "This solution helps the enterprise save 1,165 tons of fuel annually, equivalent to VND 815.2 million. The investment cost is VND 2.2 billion, with a payback period of under three years," Mr. Hoang Quang Tung emphasized.

Regarding the second solution, aimed at upgrading drying efficiency and reducing fuel consumption, Mr. Tung highlighted its cost-effectiveness and environmental benefits. With a modest investment of VND 300 million and a short payback period of approximately 4.5 months, the solution offers significant annual savings of 1,268 tons of fuel, equivalent to VND 887.4 million. Beyond the financial advantages, this solution contributes to reducing environmental emissions while not interrupting the operations of the existing fiber drying control system.

Commenting on the feasibility study results, Mr. Nguyen The Mai, General Director of May Forestry Joint Stock Company, said that the enterprise had previously considered the energy-saving solutions proposed by the consulting unit. However, the technical team lacked the expertise to comprehensively calculate all the parameters, leaving insufficient grounds for implementating these solutions in practice. The feasibility study report presented by the consulting unit is very detailed, and the proposed solutions are highly feasible, so the enterprise has decided to implement both solutions. Mr. Nguyen The Mai expressed gratitude to the DEPP3 Program for supporting the enterprise in conducting pre-feasibility and feasibility studies and hoped for continued support from the program in the future.

Mr. Nguyen The Mai, General Director of May Forestry Joint Stock Company, expressed his gratitude to the DEPP3 Program for supporting the factory in conducting pre-feasibility and feasibility studies. He also conveyed his hope for continued support from the program in the future.

Mr. Nguyen The Mai also shared: "Enhancing energy efficiency in production is an annual activity of the TH Group. The enterprise had preliminary ideas for energy-saving activities and implemented simple solutions. Fortunately, during this period, the company received assistance from the DEPP3 Program experts, helping to conduct studies and provide accurate figures and robust foundations for the company to confidently implement these solutions. Most importantly, the project implementation process has raised employee awareness of energy efficiency within our enterprise."

The representative of May Forestry Joint Stock Company also emphasized a commitment to implement the solutions proposed in the feasibility report during Q1 and Q2 of 2025.

Mr. Jorgen Hvid, Long-term Advisor to the DEPP3 Program, shared his insights during the meeting.

Expressing his delight at the positive feedback from the enterprise, Mr. Jorgen Hvid, Long-term Advisor to the DEPP3 Program, affirmed: "The purpose of the VAS Program is to help enterprises implement energy-saving solutions in practice, not just 'on paper.' Therefore, we are very pleased that May Forestry Joint Stock Company has committed to implementing the solutions proposed in the feasibility study report. This is concrete evidence of the VAS Program's results achieved through the joint efforts of all parties involved."

The VAS program is designed to promote energy efficiency in the industrial sector by providing technical support for enterprises to explore significant energy efficiency opportunities, improve production efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and transition towards green production in line with global trends. For enterprises seeking preferential loans to implement energy efficiency projects, the Program will assist in preparing loan applications and connecting them with suitable financial sources.

Enterprises interested in registering for the VAS Program should contact the project’s technical consultant for detailed guidance: Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha (Email: [email protected], Phone: 0916 942 624).
