On the afternoon of April 7, the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and the Danish Energy Agency (DEA) coordinated to organize an online workshop "Consultation on the proposal of the quota of energy consumption and develop technical guidelines for the plastic industry”.
Representatives of several agencies and departments of industry and trade, as well as the private sector from the plastic field participated in the workshop. Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of Energy efficiency and Sustainable Development Department, chaired the conference session.
Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, Deputy Director of Energy efficiency and Sustainable Development Department delivered the opening speech.
The workshop is within the framework of the "Energy Partnership Program between Vietnam and Denmark period 2020-2025" (DEPP3). The program is implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Danish Energy Agency (the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate) and the Danish Embassy.
One of the critical objectives of the DEPP3 is to develop a low-carbon industry, which aims to reduce energy consumption for some industrial sectors compared to the period 2015-2018. For the plastic industry, the goal is to reduce relatively 18-22.46% of the average energy consumption by 2025 and 21.55-24.81% by 2030. According to Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, this is an "ambition" objective of the Government, therefore, requires collaboration between private sectors and authorities to achieve.
In the coming time, MOIT will evaluate and continue to implement Circular No.38 in line with the existing conditions and energy consumption of the plastic industry. At the same time, the Ministry will also implement supporting activities and incentive schemes to boost energy-efficient use in enterprises. The results will be reported to MOIT to make appropriate adjustments to achieve the goals of DEPP3.
In 2021-2022, within the DEPP framework, many technical support activities will be implemented, including conducting research, surveys, and business audits at some plastic enterprises. Based on those activities, further recommendations and amendments related to current regulations on energy consumption in the plastic industry will be given. Besides, calculation tools and guidelines for enterprises to make energy consumption reports, and energy-saving solutions would be developed.
According to Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu, MOIT has developed and issued many technical documents to help plastic enterprises optimize energy saving. “The program also provides technical manuals, and energy-saving solutions in the plastic industry to improve understanding and enhance solutions to optimize energy efficiency", emphasized Mr. Trinh Quoc Vu.
Danish experts joined in the workshop.
At the workshop, Vietnamese and international consultants presented the research results. They proposed some solutions to reduce energy consumption and drafted guidelines for enterprises and regulatory agencies. The workshop allowed plastic manufacturers to learn and apply energy-saving solutions in their business activities.
